A, or a, is the first letter and first vowel of the modern English alphabet and the basic Latin ISO alphabet. Its English name is a (pronounced / ˈeɪ /) plural aes. It is similar in shape to the ancient Greek letter alpha from which it is derived. Version with capital letters with different slanting sides of a triangle, intersected in the middle by a horizontal bar. The lowercase version can be written in two forms: double-storey a and single-storey ɑ. Consequences are often what you use in handwriting and fonts based on it, especially fonts intended for reading by children, and it is also found in italics.

The earliest sure preceding “A” is aleph (also called “aleph”), the first letter of the Phoenician alphabet, which consists entirely of consonants (due to what is called more abjad, to be called more abjad, to from the true alphabet). In turn, the forerunner of the aleph may be a pictogram of an ox’s head in proto-Sinaitic script influenced by Egyptian hieroglyphs, shaped like a triangular head with two elongated horns.

When the ancient Greeks adopted the alphabet, they did not use letters that represent pharyngeal alcohol – the consonant sound that the letter denoted in Phoenician and other Semitic languages, and that was the first phoneme of the Phoenician pronunciation of the letter—so they used their version of the sign to represent the vowel /a/, and called it by the similar name of alpha.In the earliest Greek inscriptions after the Greek Dark Ages, dating from the 8th century BC, the letter rests on itself, but in the Greek alphabet of later times, traction is usually distinguished by the modern capital letter, although many local varietals can be distinguished by shortening one leg or by the angle under which thecross line is set.

The Etruscans brought the Greek alphabet into their civilization on the Italian Peninsula, and the letter unchanged. The Romans later adopted the Etruscan alphabet to write Latin, and the resulting letter was preserved in the Latin alphabet, which they would use to write in many languages, including English.

In Roman times there were many variants of the letter “A.” The first was the monumental or lapidary style, which was used for inscribing on stone or other “permanent” media. There was also a cursive style used for everyday or utilitarian writing, which was done on more perishable surfaces. Due to the “volatile” nature of these surfaces, there are not as many examples of this style as there are monumental ones, but there are increasingly many surviving examples of different types of cursive, such as magnificent cursive, minuscule cursive, and semi-italic minuscule. There were also variants that were intermediate between the monumental and cursive styles. Known option inclusions early semi-uncial, the uncial, and the later semi-uncial.
