A tablet is a portable, physically robust writing medium that may be used for casual writing. Clay tablets were inscribed with a stylus and were flattened, typically dry pieces of clay that could be transported easily. They were used as a writing medium throughout the Bronze Age and far into the Iron Age, notably for cuneiform writing. Wax tablets were pieces of wood covered in a thick coating of wax and capable of recording stylus imprints.
