Groot is a fictional character that appears in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, and Jack Kirby first introduced the character in Tales to Astonish #13. (November 1960). Groot, the original extraterrestrial tree-like creature, first appeared as an invader bent on capturing humanity for experimentation.

In the crossover comic book story “Annihilation: Conquest,” the figure was reborn as a noble, heroic being in 2006. Groot later joined the Guardians of the Galaxy spin-off series, where he became a member of the same-named team. Groot has featured in a variety of Marvel-related items like animated television series, toys, and trading cards. Vin Diesel voices Groot, “child” Groot, and “teen” Groot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019), while Krystian Godlewski played the character via performance capture in the first film.
